The story behind
Esta noche, according to DoReSol
The title Esta noche is no coincidence: Kevin Kaarl chose it to mark a before and after in his third album, Ultra Sodade. Recorded live in a home studio in Chihuahua, the track captures that mix of urgency and disorder often found in songs born from a breakup. There are no studio touch-ups or exaggerated production layers; what you hear is the result of hours of rehearsal in a space where the walls hold more echoes than microphones. Kaarl’s brother, Bryan, took charge of mixing and production, and though it was his first time in such a formal role within an album, the record emerged with a raw yet precise sound, as if each note had been hand-carved.What stands out most in Esta noche is its exact duration: four minutes and thirty-six seconds that feel longer or shorter depending on the moment.
There’s no filler or unnecessary adornments; the track unfolds with a naturalness that deceives, as if the lyrics and melody had sprung forth together in a single take. The album’s title, Ultra Sodade, already hinted at Kaarl’s obsession with that Cape Verdean word that condenses a near-physical nostalgia, and Esta noche is the mirror where that emotion becomes tangible. The album was released on February 14, 2025, without major labels or distributors, but with a detail that made it stand out: all the songs were written by Kaarl after a heartbreak, and this track, in particular, sounds like the confession no one asked for but everyone needed to hear.
