The story behind
Soda Stereo recorded Disco eterno in 1995, as part of the album Sueño Stereo. It was written by the three members of the group. The song became a successful single, along with two others from the same album. In an interview, Gustavo Cerati explained that the song talks about a long-distance relationship, as if it were built in the imagination and then lived. He referred to his story with Cecilia Amenábar.
The song blends alternative rock and neopsychodelia, with electronic and ambient sounds. It begins with a guitar riff, followed by bass and drums. Then enters the rhythmic guitar and the first verse. The chorus repeats, and at the end, the riff comes back. In some versions, the phrase "Abrir el Sueño Stereo" is changed to "Abrir a Soda Stereo".
Live, the band modifies the song: it starts with a repetitive guitar sound, then the riff and the other instruments. At the end, the repetitive sound returns, but longer than in the original version.
