Luna roja

The song Luna roja, born from the collaboration between Gustavo Cerati and Zeta Bosio, emerged spontaneously. According to accounts, the band stayed working after their usual sessions, and in the midst of that practice, the piece began to take shape. The original version, which is part of the 1992 album Dynamo, is distinguished by its opening with sound effects, such as the sound of wind, before giving way to the guitar, drums, and bass. A particular sonic detail is the echo on the snare drum, and the richness of the instrumentation is enhanced by multiple layers of guitars, many of them treated with chorus, distortions, and echoes.

This piece, with an approximate duration of five and a half minutes, has a deep connection with the fight against AIDS. It is rumored that the lyrics, with phrases like "Take care of me, I will take care of you" and "I don't want to see the red moon," refer to the disease. It is even speculated that it could be a tribute to Federico Moura, leader of the band Virus, who passed away due to this condition. As a reflection of this cause, the rights to Luna roja were donated to the Fundación Huésped. A year after its release on Dynamo, in 1993, a new interpretation titled Luna roja (Soul mix) appeared on the album Zona de promesas. This version, which incorporates electronic elements and the sound of a tambourine, was also heard in the documentary on the DVD of El último concierto. On the 1997 farewell tour, Soda Stereo performed this song live, and a recording of that performance was included on the album El último concierto B at the end of that same year.
