The story behind
If any song by Rosalía could be summed up in a moment of light before dawn, it would be De madrugá. With just one minute and forty-four seconds, the track closes the second part of LUX like a whisper that lingers, as if the day had not yet fully decided to be born. It is not just its brevity that makes it special, but that air of something kept for years and brought into the present with a naturalness that seems effortless. You listen to it and feel it has always been there, as if Rosalía had found a fragment of her own story and let it rest until the right moment.
The song was born around the same time as El Mal Querer (2018), but it was left out of the original album. During the tour for that record, Rosalía brought it to the stage again and again, as if it were a live rehearsal of what was to come. It wasn’t until September 2025, as part of a collaboration with Calvin Klein, that it reappeared in a new light: in the campaign’s video, the artist appears among minimalist garments as the melody plays, now as part of LUX. It is no coincidence that the title—which in Spanish evokes dawn—relates to the album’s concept, where the spiritual and the transformative intertwine. Thus, De madrugá becomes a bridge between what was and what is to come, as if Rosalía had taken an old sketch and turned it into a definitive work.
