Con el destino

The story behind

La Vela Puerca has been crafting a sound that blends rock with the winds of ska and reggae for years, but in El Impulso —their fourth album— the band found a different balance. Con el destino is not just another song on the album: it is the moment when the band sets aside its denser arrangements to showcase a melody that breathes calmly, almost as if the rhythm pauses for a second before returning with greater force. The track starts with a clean guitar and bass foundation, and that’s the key: the absence of trumpets in the opening measures, uncommon in their style, gives it a more intimate feel, as if the song stripped away layers to reach the listener directly.The recording of El Impulso was a journey between studios. Between November and December 2006, Julio Berta captured the takes at Panda Studios —Buenos Aires—, IFU —Montevideo— and Casa Blanca —Atlántida—, but the process didn’t end there: mixing was done in February 2007 and mastering, months later, in Los Angeles with Tom Baker. Juan Campodónico handled the artistic production, giving each track that organic touch that defines the album. At 4:07, Con el destino is one of those pieces that, without haste, manages to linger in the mind long after it ends.
