The story behind
When Rubén Blades set out to record Salsa Big Band, his intention was to revive the sound of the great orchestras of the fifties, drawing inspiration from figures like Tito Puente, Tito Rodríguez, and Willie Rosario. This project, which saw the light of day on April 29, 2017, under the label Rubén Blades Productions, was conceived alongside Roberto Delgado and his Orchestra, repeating the successful formula of Son de Panamá, released in 2015. Salsa Big Band included eleven tracks, of which nine were new compositions and two were reinterpretations of pieces by Luis Demetrio and René Touzet. The overall production of the album was handled by Roberto Delgado.
Within this work, the track Como un huracán has a duration of 5 minutes and 12 seconds. The conception of Salsa Big Band was fueled by Blades' admiration for the great Puerto Rican performers and the characteristic sound of the bands of the era, seeking to recreate that sonic atmosphere in each of the recordings.
