The story behind

Ciúme, according to DoReSol

Ultraje a Rigor recorded Ciúme in a studio where 80s Brazilian rock blended with the urgency of a new generation. The song was born in the same place where Inútil and Mim Quer Tocar were conceived, but with a different twist: while the former were anthems of rebellion, Ciúme delves into a more intimate, almost ironic feeling. The short, catchy opening riff repeats like an unresolved echo, much like the emotion it describes. It’s not a typical protest song, but rather a play on the insecurity we all know.

The album Nós Vamos Invadir Sua Praia —the band’s debut— was recorded in 1985 at Nas Nuvens studio, a place already smelling of legend in Brazilian rock. The album’s title, according to producer Pena Schmidt, was a provocation: the musicians from São Paulo were telling those from Rio that a new wave of Brazilian rock was about to arrive. Ciúme fit perfectly into that mood: it wasn’t meant to be an anthem, yet it ended up being one of the songs that defined that moment. The record sold so well it earned a platinum disc in Brazil, rare for a debut LP in those years. And although Carlo "Carlinhos" Bartolini —the original band’s guitarist— left during the sessions for their next album, Sexo!!, his presence in Ciúme leaves a clear mark on its sound.
