The story behind
Church of Your Heart, according to DoReSol
The essence of Church of Your Heart, a song by Roxette, is revealed in its distinctive sound, which some described as close to Gyllene Tider, Per Gessle's side project. One of the particularities noted upon listening was Gessle's lead vocals, something less common in their songs, which brought a different texture to the duo's usual sound. The recording of this piece took place in 1990, at EMI studios in Stockholm, Sweden, with Clarence Öfwerman as producer.
This track was released as the fifth and final single from the album Joyride in February 1992. The B-side of the single on some editions included I Call Your Name. In the United Kingdom, the single came with an exclusive megamix that intertwined fragments of It Must Have Been Love, Listen to Your Heart, The Look, Joyride, and Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave). The music video for Church of Your Heart was filmed in a church in Sydney, Australia, under the direction of American Wayne Isham, who was also responsible for the videos of Spending My Time and (Do You Get) Excited?, another track from the same album. The song was well-received in Canada, reaching number 11, and also charted in several European countries.
