The story behind
Canción del elegido, according to DoReSol
Silvio Rodríguez wrote Canción del elegido in 1978, within his album Al final de este viaje. The song was recorded in Spain, at the Sonoland Studios in Madrid, and is part of a disc where the artist is accompanied only by his guitar. The lyrics speak of an anonymous hero, someone who faces violence and will not surrender. Although it never mentions the name of Abel Santamaría, the song became popularly associated with revolutionary figures such as Fidel Castro or Che. The piece became a reference in Cuba, where the phrase "matando canallas" entered everyday language. The song remains part of the singer's repertoire, along with other songs dedicated to the Revolution."
