The story behind

Balas y Flores sounds like those songs that are recorded without thinking about the future, as if they were a draft with a soul. It's not a song meant to be heard in stadiums, but rather to linger in a corner of memory, where the lyrics and the piano blend effortlessly. The track lasts just three minutes and ten seconds, and within that time, verses fit that could belong to an intimate diary: simple, direct, yet carrying that weight only things said without filters can have. It's not the typical Argentine rock song of the nineties, but something closer to a whisper than a shout, as if Fito Páez had left the door ajar for the wind of Rosario to enter while he played it.

This track is part of material that never became an official album. It's a demo recorded in 1988, when the musician had not yet crossed the threshold of mass fame. The original project was a soundtrack for a short film that was never completed due to lack of funds, so the songs remained stranded on a cassette that circulated among friends. From those tapes came later rewritten versions of other tracks: Circo Beat (1994) borrowed the rhythm of As de Poker, Sol en Cinco (1995) by Fabiana Cantilo adapted Novela into Nada es para siempre, and even a children's song, Piojos y piojitos (1991), borrowed the melody of Las brujitas. Balas y Flores stands as a testament to that stage, when the artist still didn't know that three decades later his songs would be heard on radios around the world.
