The story behind
The song Antadilla, part of the album Salsa Big Band, immerses us in a sonic universe that evokes the opulence of the great orchestras of the 1950s. The piece, with a duration of 3:29, is fueled by the admiration that Rubén Blades professes for iconic figures of Puerto Rican music such as Tito Puente, Tito Rodríguez, and Willie Rosario. This influence is perceived in the structure and arrangement, seeking to recreate that characteristic sonic atmosphere of big bands, a style that marked an era and which Blades masterfully rescues in this work.
This track was recorded as part of the album Salsa Big Band, a collaboration between Rubén Blades and Roberto Delgado & Orquesta, released in 2017. The decision to re-record with Roberto Delgado and his orchestra arose after the success of their previous joint project, Son de Panamá, released in 2015. For Salsa Big Band, eleven tracks were conceived, of which nine were original compositions and two were reinterpretations of songs written by Luis Demetrio and René Touzet. Roberto Delgado took on the production of the album, guiding the sound towards that big band sound that inspired Blades.
