John Michael Osbourne, known worldwide as Ozzy Osbourne, was born on December 3, 1948, in Marston Green and died on July 22, 2025, in Jordans. This British singer, songwriter, and television personality is recognized as one of the pioneers of heavy metal thanks to his role in the founding of the band Black Sabbath in 1968. As the vocalist of this group, he participated in the creation of nine studio albums, among which stand out essential discs for the genre such as Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971).In 1979, he was expelled from Black Sabbath due to problems with substance abuse, which led him to start a solo career.

During this period, he released thirteen studio albums, of which the first seven reached multi-platinum in the United States. Among his most notable works from this period are Blizzard of Ozz (1980) and Diary of a Madman (1981), recorded with guitarist Randy Rhoads. Osbourne returned to Black Sabbath on several occasions, participating in their last album and leading the farewell tour that ended in 2017. His last live performance was on July 5, 2025, at the Back to the Beginning event in Birmingham, his hometown, after announcing his retirement due to health problems. He died seventeen days later due to an acute myocardial infarction, and his death was followed by numerous tributes.Throughout his career, Osbourne sold over 115 million records, both as a solo artist and with Black Sabbath, and received multiple awards.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024. He was also part of the UK Music Hall of Fame. He received thirteen Grammy nominations, winning five, including the Lifetime Achievement Award. Other awards include the Ivor Novello, the Global Icon of the MTV Europe Music Awards, and the Brit Award for career. Additionally, he has stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and on the Birmingham Walk of Fame.In the 2000s, he gained greater media attention with the reality TV show The Osbournes. He also promoted new bands through the Ozzfest festival, which he created together with his wife and manager Sharon Osbourne.

In his personal life, he married twice and had six children: Jessica, Louis and Elliot with his first wife Thelma Riley, and Aimee, Kelly and Jack with Sharon.Osbourne maintained a controversial image throughout his career, largely due to his public behavior and his addictions to alcohol and drugs. His influence on heavy metal and his provocative style earned him nicknames such as the «Godfather of Heavy Metal» and the «Prince of Darkness». Bands such as Metallica, Judas Priest, Guns N' Roses, Alice in Chains and System of a Down have cited him as a significant influence, while magazines such as Hit Parader, Rolling Stone and Billboard have included him in their lists of the greatest vocalists in history.Osbourne was born at the maternity hospital in Marston Green, in the county of Warwickshire, and grew up in Aston, north of Birmingham.

His mother, Lilian Unitt, worked at a factory for the company Lucas, while his father, John Thomas «Jack» Osbourne, worked night shifts at the General Electric Company. The family, consisting of his parents, three older sisters (Jean, Iris and Gillian) and two younger brothers (Paul and Tony), lived in a small two-bedroom house at number 14 of Lodge Road.
