La secreta

When you listen to La Secreta, you encounter a proposal that intertwines folklore with rock in a very unique way. Since its beginnings, this Paraguayan band sought that distinctive sound, blending local roots with the energy of rock. Their first album, *Gratis es más rico*, released independently in November 2004, already hinted at this fusion. It was a material that circulated from hand to hand, reaching many people and featuring songs like *Soldado del Divague*, *Jodete*, or *Agua que Cae*, which over time became references in Paraguayan rock.

The band, which had Sergio "Banana" Pereira and Mike Cardozo as its main pillars, along with Ariel Burgos, recorded their three albums with this core lineup. In 2005, while sharing the stage with bands like Catupecu Machu and Árbol, they were already working on their second album. This record, titled *Alma de Cuero*, was released in 2006 under the Kamikaze Records label, a significant name in Paraguayan rock. For this work, they added Alejo Jiménez on flamenco guitar and featured guest musicians on percussion and violin, as well as Daniel Pavetti and Kike Alvarez.

More about La secreta

Biography

In 2007, La Secreta performed at the Pilsen Rock festival and had the opportunity to share the stage with the renowned Brazilian singer Gal Costa at the Banco Central theater. By 2009, they crossed the border to participate in the América do Sul Festival in Corumbá, Brazil, alongside artists like Os Paralamas do Sucesso. Meanwhile, they were preparing their third and final album, *Demasiado*, which came out in 2011. This album stood out for its diversity, including original tracks, covers of Bob Marley and Nirvana, and a tribute to Maneco Galeano. The collaboration of guitarist and requintist Juan Cancio Barreto was key in this work, which received positive feedback both nationally and internationally.

That same year, 2011, saw performances alongside figures like Charly García, Emmanuel Horvilleur, Salamandra, and Bohemia Urbana in Paraguay, as well as shows in Oberá, Argentina. La Secreta also took part in the Bicentennial festivals, significantly expanding their fanbase, as well as other major events like the Guasú Vy'ara Festival and the Ypacarai Lake Festival. In June 2012, the band gave their last concert before disbanding. After this, its members continued exploring other musical paths: Sergio Pereira formed Banana Pereira y La República, releasing the album *Manifiesto* in 2014 and later *Surfista del Raudal* in 2018, with Juan Cancio Barreto contributing to the track *Aviador del Chaco*. Meanwhile, Mike Cardozo, who had previously been in Violent Blue, formed Mike Cardozo & Da Fakinshi with Gonzalo Resquin, a former member of La Secreta, releasing the album *Kul* in 2016 and continuing his work as a producer and composer. Seven years after their split, in 2019, the band reunited to perform at Cosquín Rock Paraguay.
