Kchiporros

Kchiporros doesn’t sound like a band, but rather like a journey of rhythms that cross paths without warning. They blend the drive of ska with the sticky cadence of cumbia, add guitars that shred like in rock, and keyboards that float between the melodic and the streetwise. It’s not a collage of styles; it’s a language of its own where each instrument seems to be telling a different story, yet in the end, they all end up in the same place: a sound unlike anything else in the Paraguayan scene.

The first step came in 2006, when four friends — Roberto Ruiz Díaz, Julio Troche, Fernando Peyrat, and Mario Halley — gathered in the backyard of the latter’s house to try something new. They called it *Friday Terapy*, a space where music was the excuse to escape routine. That’s where *Bandida* was born, the song that launched them: they recorded it in a *miscleria* (that home studio where time stretched between cables and old amplifiers) and played it in a disco in Asunción. The audience responded, and within less than a year, they were nine on stage, with names like Rodrigo Ojeda "Yuka" on guitar and Eugenio Barath on keyboards. By November 2006, that group of friends had become the pioneers of something Paraguay had never heard before.

Biography

The leap came in 2007 with the EP *Demo Verano*, and shortly after, with their first album, Guaraní Cool. It was produced by Martín "Moska" Lorenzo and Mariano Franceschelli, from Los Auténticos Decadentes, and the record took them to international festivals. In 2008, with Kchiporros (the self-titled album), they recorded in Buenos Aires and won the *Grupo Revelación* award at the Música de las Américas Festival in Spain. By then, they were no longer a local band: they were a phenomenon crossing borders. In 2012, with Sr. Pombero, Matías "El Chávez" Méndez took over production, and the sound became bolder, incorporating *bailanta* and folk. The album took them to Mexico, where they shared the stage with bands like Blur and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs at Vive Latino 2013. By 2014, with Siente El Movimiento, they were headliners in Paraguay and touring cities like Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. The *Los Ojos Rojos Tour* of 2015 cemented them as one of the most in-demand acts in the region, with crowds at every stop.
