Julieta Venegas

When one encounters the music of Julieta Venegas, it is easy to feel that connection that arises from authenticity. Before launching her solo career, she was part of the band Tijuana No!, where she even co-wrote one of their most well-known songs, «Pobre de ti», alongside Álex Zúñiga. It was in 1996 when she decided to embark on her own path, moving to Mexico City with the support of Café Tacvba. Soon after, she signed with BMG/Ariola and released her first album, Here, in 1997, followed by Bueninvento in 2000. Both works, produced by Gustavo Santaolalla, resonated strongly in Mexico’s rock scene and spread across Latin America.

The album Yes, released in 2003, marked a turning point, giving her much greater visibility. Then, in 2006, came Limón y Sal, this time under the Sony & BMG label, which expanded her reach in Latin America and Europe, earning her several awards and platinum records. Her first MTV Unplugged, recorded in 2008, was a milestone that consolidated her internationally and introduced her to countries like Brazil, selling over 400,000 digital copies and 100,000 physical copies in Mexico alone.

More about Julieta Venegas

Biography

In 2010, with Otra Cosa, she presented a more intimate and personal sound, achieving significant sales in the Americas and Europe and opening doors to international stages. She shifted toward an indie and minimalist style with Los Momentos in 2013, an album that, though less commercial, reached the top positions in digital stores across Latin America, Spain, and the United States. With Algo Sucede (2015), she returned to her acoustic roots and her signature accordion sound, debuting at number 1 on the Latin Pop Albums chart of Billboard. Throughout her career, she is estimated to have sold over 10 million records worldwide.

Her talent is not limited to music; she also ventured into acting and composed songs for the play La Enamorada, which she later included on her 2019 album. She has been honored with a Grammy Award and nine Latin Grammy Awards, among other accolades such as seven MTV Awards and two Billboard Music Awards. Additionally, she has been recognized with the “Master Of Latin Music Award Berklee College” and a “Musa Awards Elena Casals” for her contributions as a composer. Her social work is also notable, having been named “Goodwill Ambassador” by UNICEF in Mexico in 2009 and by the Council of Women Ministers of Central America in 2011.
