The story behind
When approaching Limón y sal, we encounter a track that, although released as the second single from her self-titled album in August 2006, did not achieve the same commercial resonance as its predecessor, Me voy. However, its impact on Mexican radio was notable, reaching the second position, and on the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay chart, it ranked twenty-fourth. The song, co-written by Julieta Venegas and Jorge Villamizar, vocalist of Bacilos, and produced by Cachorro López, focuses on the idea of accepting the loved one as they are, with their imperfections and virtues. This theme is reflected in the music video, directed by Picky Tallarico, where Julieta plays a fairytale figure who marries a werewolf. The visual narrative explores transformation and acceptance, culminating in an awakening and an emotional reunion. In 2008, the song took on a new dimension when it was reinterpreted for her MTV Unplugged.
The album Limón y sal, released in May 2006 in Mexico, Spain, and Latin America, and in June in the United States, proved to be a resounding success. With sales exceeding 8 million copies worldwide, it earned platinum certifications in Argentina, Spain, Uruguay, Mexico, and the United States, in addition to gold records in Chile, Italy, Colombia, and Central America. Julieta Venegas's work on this album was recognized with a Latin Grammy award in the category of "Best Alternative Music Album," and the following year, in 2007, she received a Grammy for "Best Latin Pop Album." The production featured recording engineering by Juan Blas Caballero, Ignacio Castro, Damián Nava, and Pablo López Ruiz, while the mixing was handled by César Sogbe.
