Siderado

Skank's Siderado, their fourth studio album, arrived in 1998 and marked a turning point in their sound. Recorded between March and June of that year, the album moved away from their purer ska roots to explore textures that fused alternative rock and reggae. The production was handled by the British duo John Shaw, known for his work with UB40, and Paul Ralphes. The recording sessions took place at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London, a setting that undoubtedly contributed a special atmosphere to the final result.

About the album

Siderado, according to DoReSol

This record gave us songs that resonated strongly, such as Resposta and Mandrake e os Cubanos. The composition of most of the tracks was by Samuel Rosa and Chico Amaral, but Siderado was also enriched with notable collaborations. Daúde contributed his voice on Don Blás, while the instrumental collective Uakti added their talent to No Meio do Mar. Even Resposta benefited from string arrangements performed by renowned musicians, including violins, violas, and cellos.

With a more elaborate and experimental sonic proposal, Siderado connected with a wide audience, reaching sales of nearly 750,000 copies in Brazil. This album consolidated Skank's career, showcasing an artistic evolution that was well received by both critics and the public.
