The story behind
When approaching the recording of Siderado in 1998, Skank sought a sonic direction distinct from their previous works. To achieve this, they enlisted the production of the British duo John Shaw and Paul Ralphes, who brought a fresh perspective. The album, which has a duration of 4:04, included interesting collaborations, such as the participation of Daúde on the song Don Blás and the intervention of the percussion group Uakti on No Meio do Mar. Additionally, composers like Marcelo Yuka, known for his work with O Rappa, and Rodrigo F. Leão, from the project Professor Antena, joined. Most of the lyrics were written by the usual duo of Samuel Rosa and Chico Amaral.
The band Skank was formed in March 1991 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and their initial proposal was to fuse the atmosphere of Jamaican dancehall with Brazilian pop music. Their beginnings date back to 1983, when Samuel Rosa and Henrique Portugal were part of a reggae band called Pouso Alto. In 1991, prior to a concert in São Paulo, the group adopted the name Skank, inspired by Bob Marley's song "Easy Skanking". Their first album, Skank, was released independently in 1992.
