The story behind

This song, You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away, departs from what we had been hearing from The Beatles. It is a piece that feels more intimate, almost as if you were listening to it in a private conversation. The recording, which involved engineers such as Malcolm Davies, Ken Scott, and Norman Smith, under the production of George Martin, has that quality of capturing a very specific moment. The song's duration, barely 2:10, reinforces that sense of fleetingness, like a thought that passes quickly but leaves a mark.

The composition, attributed to John Lennon and Paul McCartney, was included in the band's fifth studio album, Help!, released in 1965. This album, in addition to being the soundtrack to the film of the same name, featured 14 tracks in its original British edition. Seven of these songs appeared in the film, occupying the first side of the vinyl, while the second contained another seven, including the much-covered Yesterday. The US edition of the album, however, mixed film material with orchestral pieces, and some of the other songs would end up appearing on the US version of the next album, Rubber Soul.
