The story behind

The Beatles recorded a version of Words of Love in October 1964, for the album Beatles for Sale. The song was recorded in a London studio, with the sound they tried to imitate that of Buddy Holly's original. John Lennon and Paul McCartney sang in harmony with George Harrison, trying to replicate Holly's style. The recording was quick, only two takes plus a vocal overdub. The mono version is longer than the stereo one.

The original song was written by Buddy Holly and recorded in 1957 in a studio in New Mexico. Holly recorded it alone, combining recordings of each part. The version by the Diamonds reached the charts in 1957, being Holly's first success as a composer. The song also appeared on an album by the Diamonds in 1962.
