The story behind
The song *Wishing It Was* by Santana, with its 4:53 duration, immerses us in the sound that characterized the album Supernatural. This album, released in 1999 by Arista Records, marked a turning point for the band led by Carlos Santana. After a period without a record label in the mid-90s, Carlos Santana entered into discussions with Clive Davis, president of Arista Records, who had previously worked with the group at Columbia Records back in 1969. The goal was to create material focused on pop with radio potential, resulting in an album that attracted a new audience and revitalized interest in Santana's music.
For the recording of Supernatural, the participation of several renowned guest artists was secured, such as Rob Thomas, Eric Clapton, Everlast, Eagle-Eye Cherry (who composed the music for *Wishing It Was*), Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, Maná, and CeeLo Green. The production was handled by The Dust Brothers, Charles Goodan, Art Hodge, and Todd Ray, while the recording engineering was carried out by Steve Fontano, David Frazer, and Anton Pukshansky. The final mix was done by Todd Ray. The band, originally from San Francisco, California, was formed in 1966 with a style that fuses rock with Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms, gaining notoriety after their performance at the Woodstock festival in 1969. The album Supernatural, in particular, reached number 1 in eleven countries, demonstrating its great commercial success worldwide.
