The story behind
The song (Da Le) Yaleo, with its 5:52 duration, is a piece that emerges from a moment of redefinition for Carlos Santana and his band. After a period in which the group found itself without a record label in the mid-90s, Carlos Santana entered into discussions with Clive Davis, who had previously worked with them in their early days with Columbia Records in 1969. The goal was to focus the music towards a sound more accessible to radio and the pop audience, which would culminate in the album Supernatural, released in 1999. This project featured the participation of various contemporary artists, seeking a connection with new generations.
The recording of (Da Le) Yaleo and the rest of the album Supernatural involved a considerable technical team. Sound engineering was handled by Mike Couzzi, Glen Kolotkin, and Chris Manning, while the mixing work was carried out by Ben Conrad, Steve Fontano, and Jim Gaines. The overall production of the album fell to Carlos Santana, who sought to fuse the band's characteristic style, a mix of rock with Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms, with more modern elements. The band, originating in 1966 in San Francisco, California, and gaining notoriety after their performance at Woodstock in 1969, experimented with this new direction, resulting in an album that generated renewed interest in their music worldwide.
