The story behind
When you immerse yourself in Why Did You Wait (To Tell Me), the first sensation is that of a melody that envelops you, with a duration of 4 minutes and 5 seconds that invites you to stay. This piece, part of Mary MacGregor's debut album, Torn Between Two Lovers, released in December 1976, stands out for its musical construction.
The context of its creation is interesting: the album was produced and co-written by Peter Yarrow. Three singles were released from this work that managed to appear on both the Country charts and the pop Hot 100. The song that gives the album its title, for its part, reached the top spot on the pop and adult contemporary charts. At the time, Robert Christgau, in his 1981 Record Guide: Rock Albums of the Seventies, gave it a "C" rating, noting that he considered it a replacement for Olivia Newton-John, but with a willingness to admit infidelity. On the other hand, Robert Hilburn, of the Los Angeles Times, described it in a particular way.
