The story behind
Velvet Morning, according to DoReSol
The song Velvet Morning by The Verve, with its 4:58 duration, delves into a sound that invites reflection. Its production, handled by Chris Potter and the band itself, along with Youth, gives it a particular atmosphere. The final mix, also the work of Chris Potter, contributes to the sonic texture that defines this piece.
The path to the recording of Urban Hymns, the album to which *Velvet Morning* belongs, was marked by changes. After a separation in August 1995, the band reunited without guitarist Nick McCabe. Richard Ashcroft, the vocalist, moved to Bath, Somerset, and began creating demos. Shortly after, Simon Tong joined the group. Initial recording sessions with producers like John Leckie and Owen Morris did not go well. Even, for a brief period, former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler was part of the band, but creative differences led to his departure. Finally, in 1996, The Verve began recording at Olympic Studios in London, first with producer Martin "Youth" Glover and then with engineer Chris Potter. In early 1997, Ashcroft re-established contact with McCabe.
