The story behind
The song Up in the Sky, with its 4:29 duration, is a piece taken from the recording sessions for Oasis' debut album, Definitely Maybe. The music is credited to Noel Gallagher, who also handled lead guitar and backing vocals. On this work, Noel Gallagher led the songwriting, while Liam Gallagher was responsible for the lead vocals. The rest of the lineup was completed by Paul Arthurs on rhythm guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass, and Tony McCarroll on drums.
The album's recordings began in January 1994 at Monnow Valley Studio, near Rockfield, with producer Dave Batchelor, whom Noel Gallagher knew from his time working with Inspiral Carpets. However, these initial sessions were not satisfactory, and Batchelor was dismissed. In February 1994, the group moved to Sawmills Studios in Cornwall to re-record the material. There, Noel Gallagher took over production alongside Mark Coyle, who also participated in the recording engineering with Anjali Dutt, Dave Scott, and Roy Spong. The final mix was handled by Owen Morris, who also co-produced with Mark Coyle and the band itself.
