Underdog

The story behind Underdog seems to be a direct reflection of Imagine Dragons' trajectory. It has been suggested that the song might have a connection to the Mormon roots of some members, interpreting the references to "father" as a call to God, almost like a prayer. The title itself, Underdog, evokes the band's struggle to make their way in the music industry, facing constant rejections before achieving recognition.

This theme is part of Night Visions, Imagine Dragons' debut album, released in September 2012. The production of the record was handled by the band itself, along with Alex da Kid and Brandon Darner. The creation process of Night Visions spanned three years, and included material that had already appeared on several previous EPs. Musically, the album fuses elements of folk, hip hop, and pop. The recording featured engineering by Rob Katz and Josh Mosser, and the mixing was done by Manny Marroquin. Night Visions debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 in the United States, selling over 83,000 copies in its first week.
