The story behind
There's something about Ultra Sodade that doesn't sound like an album recorded in a living room, but rather an intimate journey that seeps through the pores of the house. The track begins with a guitar that seems to breathe between long notes and a rhythm that refuses to be hurried, as if each chord carried the weight of something not fully expressed. That blend of melancholy and warmth isn't accidental: Kevin Kaarl took the word sodade —that Cape Verdean nostalgia with no exact translation— and added an "ultra" in front to turn it into a mood that permeates the entire album. It's not just a title; it's the essence of what comes next: songs that sound like painful goodbyes, but also like embraces that refuse to let go.
They recorded it in Chihuahua, in a studio set up at home, with equipment that wasn't studio-grade and no rush to sound "perfect." Bryan Kaarl, his brother, took charge of production and mixing, and that gesture marked a before and after in how Kevin works: for the first time, the creative process stopped being one-directional. The thirteen songs on the album were born from a heartbreak, but they don't sound like lament; they sound like something rawer: the honesty of someone writing from exhaustion, without filters.
