The story behind
The Beatles recorded "Twist and Shout" in 1963, inspired by the Isley Brothers' version. The song was released on their first UK album, Please Please Me. John Lennon sang the lead vocals and admitted that at first he felt uncomfortable with his performance, but then he relaxed. The recording was a single take, without editing, and became one of the most famous in rock history. At the end of the song, you can hear Lennon coughing, a sign that he was tired. The Beatles' version arrived in the United States in 1964, accompanied by "There's a Place" as the B-side. It reached number two on the Billboard chart, but did not reach number one because "Can't Buy Me Love" occupied that spot. The song was included in an EP in the UK and became the title of an album in Canada.
