The story behind
The song Trapecista, released as the fifth and final track from the self-titled debut album by Enrique Iglesias, has an interesting story behind its release as a single. Although the original recording dates back to 1995, it was in 1996 that it was presented to the public as an official single. The composition and production were handled by the renowned Spanish musician Rafael Pérez Botija, who was also behind the creation of the entire album. This track, classified as a pop and rock ballad, reached prominent positions on the music charts of the time, consolidating the artist's initial success.
In the music video for Trapecista, directed by Jon Small, a visual narrative is presented where Enrique Iglesias performs the song while evoking memories of his beloved. The scenes show him singing from an armchair, imagining caresses and shared moments, such as a game of chess or everyday conversations, which are presented as mere vestiges of the past. The album Enrique Iglesias, from which this single is taken, was released by Fonovisa Records in 1995. This record work, also produced by Rafael Pérez Botija, received a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album in 1997. Additionally, the album obtained a gold certification in Portugal and sold over 5 million copies worldwide, achieving platinum status in the United States.
