This album, which bears the same name as the artist, received significant recognition. It was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album at the 1997 ceremony. In terms of its commercial impact, the album achieved gold certification in Portugal in just five weeks and, worldwide, is estimated to have sold over 5 million copies. In the United States, platinum certification was achieved on November 18, 1996, awarded by the RIAA. Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler, born in Madrid in 1975, began his musical career in 1995 after signing with Fonovisa, a label of the Mexican company Televisa, which was key to boosting his career in Spanish-speaking markets and among the Latino community in the United States. Subsequently, in 1999, he made the leap to the English-speaking market by signing with Interscope, and also joined Universal Music Latino for his Spanish releases.
