The story behind

The song Tradición, with its 5:20 duration, immerses itself in a rich tapestry of rhythms that draw directly from African and Cuban influences. It was released as the third single from the album Mi Tierra, a work that Gloria Estefan dedicated to her Cuban roots. What's interesting about this track is how, despite being sung entirely in Spanish, it managed to reach the top of the US Hot Dance Club Play chart, a milestone for her. This success on the dance floors was largely due to the distribution of promotional singles to clubs, which boosted its popularity and kept it at the top of that chart for two weeks in late 1993 and early 1994.

This album, Mi Tierra, was produced by her husband, Emilio Estefan, and recorded at Crescent Moon Studios in Miami, Florida. To bring this project to life, highly acclaimed musicians such as Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, Cachao López, Chamin Correa, and Paquito D'Rivera were enlisted, who contributed their mastery to Cuban genres like bolero, danzón, and son music. Mi Tierra became an international success, selling millions of copies and marking a milestone by being the first album to reach number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States, remaining there for 58 weeks, a record that lasted until 2021. The recording featured the collaboration of engineers such as Charles Dye, Patrice Wilkison Levinsohn, Frank Miret, Eric Schilling, and Ron Taylor.
