The story behind
This Time, according to DoReSol
The song This Time by The Verve, with its duration of 3 minutes and 51 seconds, is from Urban Hymns, the third studio album by this English band. The recording of this album had a particular journey. After a temporary separation in August 1995, the group reunited two weeks later, although without guitarist Nick McCabe. Richard Ashcroft, the vocalist, moved to Bath, Somerset, and began working on demos. Shortly after, Simon Tong joined. The initial recording sessions with producers John Leckie and Owen Morris were not successful. The band looked for a new guitarist and contacted Bernard Butler, who had been part of Suede.
Butler collaborated with them for a week, but creative differences led to his departure. In 1996, The Verve resumed recording at Olympic Studios in London. They first worked with producer Martin "Youth" Glover, and then with engineer Chris Potter. In early 1997, Ashcroft re-contacted McCabe. Finally, the mixing of the album was handled by Chris Potter, who also shared production credits with The Verve and Youth.
