The story behind
Territorial Pissings, according to DoReSol
In Territorial Pissings, Nirvana unleashes raw energy that feels like it was captured in a single take, almost defying producer Butch Vig's suggestions. The recording was done directly to the console, capturing a punk urgency that defines the song's sound. You'll hear Krist Novoselic hum a snippet of The Youngblood's "Get Together" in the intro, a reference he felt might make some ponder the direction of certain ideas. The track, running 2:23, was composed by Kurt Cobain.
The album it belongs to, Nevermind, was recorded between May and June 1991 at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California, and Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin. Mastering was completed in August of that year at The Mastering Lab, in Hollywood, California. This work marked Dave Grohl's debut as the band's drummer and was distinguished by a more polished, radio-friendly sound compared to their previous efforts. Nevermind, released on September 24, 1991, by DGC Records, became a landmark, propelling the grunge genre, originating from Seattle, onto the global music scene.
