The story behind
'tas caliente, according to DoReSol
When Rubén Blades embarked on the creation of Antecedente in 1988, he sought to reconnect with the roots of tropical music. For this project, his backing band, previously known as Seis del Solar, adopted the name Son del Solar, and there was a particular sonic shift: trombones took the place of some synthesized instruments. This turn marked a return to salsa for Blades, who had expressed his dissatisfaction with past studio recording techniques, feeling they distorted the essence of the music. The album resonated enough to reach eighth place on Billboard's Tropical Albums chart.
The production of the record fell directly into the hands of Rubén Blades. This work, Antecedente, was recognized with a Grammy award in the category of "Best Tropical Latin Performance". Interestingly, reviews of the time often compared it to Los Lobos' La Pistola y El Corazón, another album that was also characterized by a focus on musical roots. The song 'tas caliente, with a duration of 3 minutes and 55 seconds, is part of this effort to capture an authentic and danceable sound.
