The story behind

As you immerse yourself in Noches del ayer, you'll encounter a piece that Rubén Blades conceived as a return to the roots of salsa. This track, part of the album Antecedente released in 1988, was recorded with a band that changed its name from Seis del Solar to Son del Solar. One of the particularities of this phase was the incorporation of trombones, replacing some of the synthesizer sounds that had predominated before. The album's production fell to Blades himself, who sought a more authentic sound, distancing himself from studio techniques that, in his opinion, distorted the music.

The impact of Antecedente was notable, so much so that the album won a Grammy award in the category of "Best Tropical Latin Performance." Additionally, it reached eighth place on Billboard's Tropical Albums chart. Critics also recognized the work; Robert Christgau, for example, highlighted how Blades enriched the revamped Son del Solar with salsa and trombone arrangements, creating a danceable album. Curiously, Antecedente was often compared to Los Lobos' La Pistola y El Corazón, another record that also explored a return to its musical origins.
