The story behind
Surrender, according to DoReSol
The song Surrender, with its 4:20 duration, is a piece that invites attentive listening, part of the debut album by Roxette, Pearls of Passion. This album, originally released on cassette and vinyl in Scandinavia and Canada in late 1986, was later remastered and released on CD in 1997, adding unreleased material, and had another reissue in 2009. The Swedish duo Roxette is formed by Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, who already had solid careers in their country before joining. Gessle, in particular, had achieved great commercial success with his previous band, Gyllene Tider, reaching three number-one albums in Sweden in the early eighties.
The production of Surrender involved the collaboration of Alar Suurna and Robert Wellerfors as recording engineers, under the supervision of producer Clarence Öfwerman. Although Roxette was founded in 1986, their international recognition was consolidated in 1989 with the single The Look. The band, composed of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, is a duo of Swedish new wave that has achieved a significant impact on music, selling millions of records and placing several singles at the top of the Billboard charts in the United States.
