The story behind

Soul Deep, according to DoReSol

When you dive into Soul Deep, you encounter a piece that was born from a previous idea in Swedish, called Dansar nerför ditt stup i rekordfart, which translates to "Dancing down your precipice at record speed." Per Gessle himself felt that the original lyrics in his native language were "too silly," so he decided to rewrite them in English. This English version is what ended up being released as a single in February 1987, taken from his first album, Pearls of Passion, which had come out in October of the previous year.

The recording of this song took place in September 1986, at EMI's studios in Stockholm. Per Gessle was responsible for all the music and lyrics, while Clarence Öfwerman handled the production. The single had a limited run, appearing only in Sweden, Germany, and Canada. In his homeland, Sweden, it managed to stay for three consecutive weeks at number 18 on the charts. The B-side of this single included a track from the album that, curiously, was later reused on other releases. There was also a 12-inch edition with an extended version, remixed by Kaj Erixon, which was included on the compilation Dance Passion. Even a re-arranged and remixed version of Soul Deep found its place on the 1991 album Joyride.
