The story behind
Goodbye to You, according to DoReSol
When Per Gessle composed Goodbye to You, he surely didn't imagine it would become one of Roxette's first calling cards. The song, released in December 1986, was part of Pearls of Passion, the Swedish duo's debut album. It was the second time Roxette presented a single to the public, and this time, the bet was exclusively on a 7-inch vinyl format, distributed only in Sweden. Although a limited 12-inch edition with a special remix was created, the version that resonated on the Swedish charts, reaching ninth place, was the original. Curiously, no music video was produced for this track.
The recording of Goodbye to You took place in September 1986 at EMI studios in Stockholm. Per Gessle is the author of the music and lyrics, although on the B-side of the single, the song So Far Away, he had the collaboration of Hasse Huss in writing the lyrics. Behind the production was Clarence Öfwerman, who worked with recording engineers Alar Suurna and Robert Wellerfors to shape the sound of this pop track. This single was released under the EMI label, and the recorded duration for the song is four minutes.
