The story behind

The first time I heard Sueños on Mi sangre, I was left with the feeling that this melody wasn’t just a song, but a three-minute journey. The track begins with an intimate, almost whispered air, where the acoustic guitar intertwines with a rhythm that isn’t quite pop nor rock, but something that floats between both. What’s most curious is that, despite being a short song —just 3:10—, it manages to build an atmosphere that doesn’t exhaust itself over time. There are no explosive choruses or abrupt changes, just a progression that repeats subtly, as if each note were calculated to keep the listener hooked without the need for stridency.

Recorded in the same year as the album, Sueños was one of those tracks that Juanes not only composed but also produced alongside Gustavo Santaolalla and Aníbal Kerpel. The recording engineer was none other than himself, which isn’t common among artists of his stature, but it gives the song that personal touch where every technical detail seems designed to make the track sound organic. The mixing was handled by Dave Heuer and Thom Russo, who ensured the sound didn’t get lost in excessive layers, maintaining the clarity that makes Sueños work so well in any context. The album Mi sangre was released in September 2004, but it was in 2005 when the special edition of the record came out, including live versions of other tracks and even a remix of La Camisa Negra. However, Sueños has always stood out as that song which, without shouting for attention, ends up staying in the memory.
