The story behind
When approaching Sooner Than We Think, we encounter a piece that, despite its short duration of 3:55, encapsulates the sonic evolution of Camouflage. The German trio, known for their synth-pop style, sought to expand their horizons on this track, integrating both cutting-edge technological tools and more traditional equipment. The production, handled by Dan Lacksman, who had previously collaborated with Telex, focused on an approach that allowed the band to explore new textures and atmospheres, giving them creative freedom that is perceived in the complexity of the sound.
This track is part of Methods of Silence, the group's second studio work, released in June 1989 under the Atlantic Records label. The recording took place at Synsound Studio in Brussels at the beginning of that year, after Camouflage established their own workspace, "Boys Factory 2", near their hometown. The album itself reached number 13 on the German charts, and its first single, Love Is a Shield, became their biggest hit, reaching number 9 in Germany and number 20 on the US Billboard Alternative Airplay, demonstrating the reach the band was achieving at that time.
