The story behind

Luis Alberto Spinetta and Fito Páez came together in 1986 to record an album that was more than just a record—it was a crossing of generations. From that meeting came Sólo La La La, a song that says nothing and yet says everything: a hum of barely a few seconds that works as a nod between two musicians who, at the time, represented two distinct eras of Argentine rock. There are no lyrics, no complex melody, just the sound of two voices—one high, one deep—intertwined in a game that seems improvised, but is in fact the result of a planned collaboration meant to break with the established norms. The album La la la was no ordinary project: it was the first double album recorded together by two key figures of national rock, in a country that had just emerged from a dictatorship and was beginning to breathe democracy. Spinetta, at 36 with nearly two decades of career behind him, and Páez, 23 with only two solo albums, met in the studio to create something that didn’t sound like either of them alone. Sólo La La La is the track that best captures that spirit: a piece that needs no words to convey the idea that, sometimes, music can be pure connection. Even the name of the album—and the song—plays with that senseless repetition, as if they wanted to remind the listener that, amid so much lyricism and structure, sometimes what matters most is the sound itself.
