The story behind
The song Solo Dios sabe, a Spanish version of the Beach Boys classic God Only Knows, is found on the album Tango 4, a collaborative work between Charly García and Pedro Aznar. The recording of this album spanned from January to September 1991, with Pedro Aznar in charge of engineering at his own studios, Overtone Studios. In the production of specific tracks like Vampiro, Solo Dios sabe, and Diana, he had the assistance of Peter Baleani.
This album, Tango 4, not only featured original compositions by García and Aznar, but also included reinterpretations of other artists. For example, Rompan todo was included, the Spanish adaptation of Los Shakers' Break It All, featuring the participation of Sandro. In addition to the aforementioned Solo Dios sabe, the album featured special guests such as Alfredo Alcón, who recites biblical texts on the track Treinta denarios, and Jorge Luz on Cucamonga dance. The duration of Solo Dios sabe is 3 minutes and 19 seconds.
Carlos Alberto García Moreno, universally known as Charly García, was born in Buenos Aires in 1951. His career has positioned him as a central figure in Argentine and South American music. Before this project, García had already founded emblematic bands such as Sui Géneris and Serú Girán, in addition to leading La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros. His extensive discography, which exceeds 40 solo albums, added to his collaborations, consolidates him as a reference. In 1991, the year of the recording of Tango 4, García, at 39 years old, went through a period of hospitalization due to addiction problems.
