The story behind
The first time you hear Separata, you encounter a short piece, barely a minute and thirty-six seconds, that functions almost as an interlude. However, within that brevity, there is an atmosphere that is built in a very particular way, anticipating the sonic richness that would come later on the album. It's a moment that invites you to pay attention to the details.
This track is part of the debut album by Serú Girán, released in 1978. The recording took place in the United States and Brazil, under the production of Billy Bond. The complete album, which included other pieces like Serú Girán, Seminare, and Eiti Leda, marked a before and after for rock in Argentina. Much of that complexity and the exploration of rhythms that mixed with jazz fusion and progressive rock, in addition to an interesting use of synthesizers, came from Charly García, who composed most of the songs.
