Serú Girán

When Charly García and David Lebón met in Brazil, after the Festival del Amor in 1977, they began to shape something new. The idea was to form a band, and for that, they added drummer Oscar Moro and young bassist Pedro Aznar. The recording of this first album, Serú Girán, took place in São Paulo in 1978, with Billy Bond as producer. The result was a mix of rock with jazz influences and Brazilian rhythms, a sound that departed from the usual.

About the album

Serú Girán, according to DoReSol

This debut album brought with it songs that became very well-known, such as «Eiti Leda» and «Seminare». Also notable are «Autos, jets, aviones, barcos» and «Voy a mil». The way Moro handled percussion, Aznar's bass, and the vocals and keyboards of García and Lebón created a complex and richly textured musical proposal. The press and the public even compared them to the "Argentine Beatles" for the quality of their melodies and arrangements.

The band recorded this album in the El Dorado studio in São Paulo. During those sessions, they also participated as musicians for the album Billy Bond And The Jets, recording songs like «Loco, ¿No Te Sobra Una Moneda?». The sound of this first Serú Girán marked a turning point, exploring the diversity of rhythms and styles, and the use of synthesizers and orchestral arrangements, which made it an influence for later musicians. In 2021, a remastered version of the album was released.
