Fun facts
Van Morrison wrote "Ro Ro Rosey" thinking of Bert Berns, the owner and producer of Bang Records. He recorded and wrote it for him, and it appeared on his 1967 album, Blowin' Your Mind!. It was also the second single after "Brown Eyed Girl".
The story behind
Van Morrison recorded "Ro Ro Rosey" in March 1967, at the A & R studio in New York. The song was part of the album Blowin' Your Mind! and was released as the second single after "Brown Eyed Girl". The lyrics talk about a sixteen-year-old girl, whom the singer remembers as someone special, but now feels a bit lost trying to find her. At the moment of seeing her, his voice gets stuck, and he can only say "oh uh uh uh uh".
The music has a light rhythm, with a touch of rock and blues rock, and uses a three-chord structure. Van plays guitar and harmonica, and the sound reminds one of some of the tracks he recorded for Bert Berns. The single included a B-side called "Chick-A-Boom", which didn't become as successful as the main track. The single version had female vocals layered on top, something that isn't present in the album version.
