The story behind

When you immerse yourself in Revolution 9, you encounter a sound piece that breaks with all expectations. It is not a song in the traditional sense; it is more of an exploration of sounds, a kind of auditory collage that spans over eight minutes, becoming the longest track The Beatles officially released. Its origin is linked to an extended version of the song Revolution, but from there, vocal fragments, tape loops, effects, and musical snippets were added. The influence of concrete music pioneers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, Edgard Varèse, Luigi Nono, and John Cage is palpable, all manipulated through editing and mixing techniques that played with stereo panning and fades.

This experimental piece saw the light of day in 1968, forming part of the double album popularly known as the White Album. The recording engineer was Geoff Emerick and the producer, George Martin, who worked in a context where the band was exploring a very wide range of genres. While the album itself was characterized by its fragmented style, Revolution 9 stands as a highlight of that experimentation, a sonic journey that invited active and different listening.
