The story behind
Retrato em branco e preto, according to DoReSol
The song Retrato em branco e preto captures an intimate and reflective moment, where the voice of Elis Regina intertwines with the composition of Chico Buarque and Tom Jobim. The performance feels restrained and smooth, ideal for exploring the nuances of bossa nova. This track, along with other classics of the genre, is part of a very special discographic project.
This album, titled Elis & Tom, was the result of a collaboration between Elis Regina and Antonio Carlos Jobim, released in August 1974. The recording sessions took place at MGM Studios in Los Angeles, California, between February 22 and March 9 of that same year. The opportunity to record with Tom Jobim arose as a gift for Elis Regina, celebrating her ten years with Philips. The arrangements were handled by César Camargo Mariano, who brought an innovative vision by incorporating electric instruments into bossa nova, creating a distinctive sound for the album. The production was overseen by Aloysio de Oliveira, while the recording engineering was carried out by Humberto Gatica.
