The story behind
Raros peinados nuevos, according to DoReSol
In Piano Bar, the third solo album by Charly García, there is a track that stands out: Raros peinados nuevos. It sounds straightforward, with a rhythm that hooks from the first measure and lyrics that play with everyday images but laden with irony. What’s most striking isn’t just its catchy melody, but how the song holds together on a groove that seems improvised yet is meticulously constructed. The bass and drums set a pulse that never stops, while the guitar and piano intertwine with the naturalness that only comes from songs born of a clear and straightforward idea.
Recorded at Estudios ION in Buenos Aires in 1984, the album was recorded live, with very few overdubs. This gave it that raw, unfiltered sound that contrasts with the polished production of other works from the era. Later, in New York, the material was mixed at Electric Lady Studios, where they finished defining that balance between raw and professional that makes it instantly recognizable. The song itself lasts just over three minutes, but in that time it achieves what few tracks do: sounding fresh decades later, as if time had not passed.
