Plain Gold Ring

The story behind

Nina Simone recorded Plain Gold Ring in 1957, before the release of her first album. The song was part of a disc called Little Girl Blue, but the label delayed its release. In the meantime, Simone recorded something else, a second collection that became The Amazing Nina Simone. The song remained in the studio, not released at that time. Until May 1959, Bethlehem Records released a single, I Loves You, Porgy, which gave her her first success. The song Plain Gold Ring remained in the dark side of history, never released as a single. The duration is three and a half minutes, but the weight of the song is not measured in seconds. It is a piece that is kept, played in silence, carried in the voice of a woman who does not stay silent.
