The story behind

One Day, according to DoReSol

The song *One Day* by The Verve, with its duration of just over five minutes, delves into an atmosphere that invites reflection. Its sound, part of the album Urban Hymns, was forged during a period of reconfiguration for the band. After a temporary separation in August 1995, the group regrouped without guitarist Nick McCabe. Richard Ashcroft, the vocalist, moved to Bath, Somerset, where he began working on demos. Shortly after, Simon Tong joined the lineup.

The recording sessions for Urban Hymns went through various stages. Initial attempts with producers such as John Leckie and Owen Morris did not come to fruition. The band then considered adding Bernard Butler, former guitarist of Suede, who collaborated for a week before creative differences put an end to that possibility. Finally, in 1996, the recordings resumed at Olympic Studios in London, first under the supervision of Martin "Youth" Glover and later with the engineering of Chris Potter. It was in 1997 when Ashcroft reconnected with McCabe. The final mix of *One Day* was handled by Chris Potter, who also shared production credits alongside The Verve and Youth.
